What it does
This bill would require NASA, in consultation with the FAA, NOAA, and relevant academic, industry, and nonprofit organizations, to conduct a study examining whether current aeronautical and atmospheric standards — including the U.S. Standard Atmosphere of 1976 — need to be updated to reflect changing atmospheric conditions. The study would assess how atmospheric changes over the past 50 years have affected, and may affect over the next 50 years, the performance, operating costs, and design requirements of commercial aircraft and federal government aircraft. NASA may transmit results to relevant congressional committees within 18 months of enactment.
